人気の魚200種に「生息イメージ」のイラストを追加しました
魚図鑑のイラストは、種によって「白背景版」と「生息イメージ版」の2枚を用意しています。今回はマダイ・ブリ・クロマグロ・ヒラメ・マアジといった、釣りでおなじみの人気200種に生息イメージ版を追加しました。2枚立てになった種は合計494種です。収録種数は約2,940種のままで、種の追加はありません。
アプリの魚図鑑での表示イメージ。日本語・英語どちらの表示にも対応しています。イラストは左右にスワイプ（Web版はイラスト下の左右ボタン）で白背景版と切り替えられます。生息イメージ版がまだ用意できていない種は、これまでどおり白背景版の1枚だけを表示します。
定番の魚ほど1枚のままでした
生息イメージ版はこれまで、図鑑を拡充するたびにその回に新しく加わった種から順に用意してきました。その結果、比較的マイナーな魚には2枚あるのに、マダイやクロマグロのような誰もが知る魚ほど白背景1枚のままという逆転が起きていました。今回はその穴を埋めるために、知名度・人気の高い既存の種だけを選んでいます。
今回追加したおもな魚
- 磯・堤防・沖の定番 — マダイ・クロダイ・イシダイ、ブリ・ヒラマサ・カンパチ・マアジ、スズキ・メジナ・アイナメなど、日本の釣りの主役たち。
- 外洋の大型魚 — クロマグロ・キハダ・メバチ・カツオ・サワラ、バショウカジキやメカジキまで。地形を描かない深い青の中に、外洋の魚らしい姿を収めました。
- 砂と根の魚 — ヒラメ・マコガレイ・イシガレイは、砂に半ば埋もれて目だけを出す姿が本来の暮らしぶりです。カサゴ・アカメバル・クエ・マハタなど根魚も岩の穴とともに描いています。
- 川と湖の魚 — アユ・ヤマメ・イワナ・サクラマス、コイ・ゲンゴロウブナ・オイカワ・ニホンウナギ、オオクチバスやカムルチーまで。日本の淡水らしい光と緑のなかに置きました。
- 世界のゲームフィッシュ — ロウニンアジ、ピラルクー、そして「Barramundi」「Atlantic tarpon」「Butterfly peacock bass」「Atlantic salmon」「Northern pike」など、海外のフィールドを象徴する魚。
- イカ・タコ・エビ・カニ・貝 — スルメイカ・アオリイカ・マダコ・ミズダコ、タラバガニ・ズワイガニ・イセエビ、アサリ・ハマグリ・ホタテガイ・サザエなど、魚以外の仲間も38種。
- 危険な魚 — オニダルマオコゼ・ミノカサゴ・ゴンズイ・アカエイ・ダツなど。毒棘や歯が隠れないアングルを優先して描いています。
- 水族館の人気者 — カクレクマノミ・ナンヨウハギ・マンボウ・チンアナゴ。釣りの対象ではありませんが、図鑑を眺める楽しさのために加えました。

Encyclopedia illustrations come in two versions — a plain one and an in-habitat one. This update adds in-habitat artwork for 200 of the best-known species, including the red sea bream, Japanese amberjack, Pacific bluefin tuna, olive flounder and Japanese horse mackerel. 494 species now have both. No species were added — the encyclopedia still covers about 2,940.
How species look in the app encyclopedia — available in both Japanese and English. Swipe the illustration left or right to switch versions (on the web, use the arrow buttons below it). Species without in-habitat artwork simply show the single plain illustration, exactly as before.
The best-known fish were the ones still missing it
Until now, in-habitat artwork was produced for the species newly added in each expansion batch. The result was upside down: fairly obscure fish had two illustrations, while household names like the red sea bream and the bluefin tuna still had only the plain one. This update fills that gap, and deliberately covers nothing but well-known species already in the encyclopedia.
What this update covers
- Japan's everyday targets — red sea bream, black sea bream and striped beakfish; Japanese amberjack, yellowtail amberjack, greater amberjack and Japanese horse mackerel; Japanese sea bass, largescale blackfish and fat greenling.
- Big fish of the open ocean — Pacific bluefin, yellowfin and bigeye tuna, skipjack tuna, Japanese Spanish mackerel, and billfish including the Indo-Pacific sailfish and the swordfish, set against deep blue water with no terrain in frame.
- Fish of sand and rock — the olive flounder and two righteye flounders are shown half-buried with only their eyes exposed, which is how they actually live. Marbled rockfish, red rockfish and the longtooth grouper appear with the crevices they hold in.
- Rivers and lakes — ayu sweetfish, masu salmon, cherry salmon and white-spotted char; common carp, Japanese crucian carp, pale chub and Japanese eel; plus largemouth bass and northern snakehead.
- Game fish of the world — giant trevally, barramundi, Atlantic tarpon, butterfly peacock bass, arapaima, Atlantic salmon and northern pike, each in the field it is known for.
- Squid, octopus, crustaceans and shellfish — 38 of the 200 are not fish: Japanese flying squid, bigfin reef squid, East Asian common octopus and giant Pacific octopus, red king crab and Atlantic snow crab, Japanese spiny lobster, Manila clam, orient clam, Yesso scallop and horned turban.
- Dangerous species — reef stonefish, luna lionfish, Japanese eeltail catfish and red stingray, drawn from angles that keep the venomous spines and teeth visible rather than hidden.
- Aquarium favourites — clown anemonefish, blue hippo tang, ocean sunfish and black spotted garden eel. Not angling targets, but part of the pleasure of browsing the encyclopedia.
