What's your favourite braid?

What's your favourite braided or gelspun line? What sort of fishing do you do?

I am yet to actually use braid line, I still use nothing but mono on all my rigs whether it be bottom bouncing, trolling of bait casting! I love the stretch, but I suppose I'll get around to braid one day, but first I want to give the new Platypus Lo-stretch Mono a go!

I currently use a 7 foot 4kg Strudwick sikstik pro (Australian built, prior to Strudwick being taken over) with a Diawa SOL 2000 reel. It is spooled with 2kg Fireline braid and 4kg Vanish leader. Most of my fishing is with soft plastics chasing flathead, bream and whiting on the south coast of NSW, Australia. I have used most other braided lines but I have found the Fireline to have a lot more feel than most and casts well with unweighted lures.

braid

Don't mind Fireline myself, and Platypus braid too.

Can't believe we actually put up with mono for 50 years!

I may be wrong (and any advise is welcome) but I think that mono is the number one choice when hunting pelagics. I still fish 15kg mono on my landbased outfit when chasing kingies and tuna off the rocks. But that is mainly due to the cost of 1000+ metres of braid needed to fill the reel.
.
FINS is also another good braided line. It is a lot stiffer than Fireline though.

Favourite Braid

My favourite is Platypus. but am trying the new Fins at the moment. Have used the Berkely Whiplash; however, the diameter is way to fine for any abrasive resistance below 25kg breaking strain. The 40kg stuff is good though. Amazing what the difference in feel is when comparing Braid with Mono.

I would have said Fireline, but after a recent faulty batch I wont. Time to try some other braids I think.
