Queenstown

I drove a few kms up the road to Glenorchy where there was laake and river fishing with a back drop of alps. Plenty of trout - absolutely awesome.

Queenstown

It's only a short drive from Queenstown and the road is along the big lake there.

There is excellent clear water for fly fishing - the rivers run fast and I think they are mostly rainbows in the river with some stocked salmon in the lake.

There is a smaller lake near Glenorchy that looks great. Would have to check first before throwing spinners or bait about.

Much of the time you can actually see the trout swimming around.
